KCRW Today’s Top Tune, November 2024

“Earlier this year, KCRW’s Young Creators Project invited undiscovered musical talent in the greater Los Angeles area to share their work. We got a couple hundred submissions and then had the hard task of narrowing it down to five finalists. One of those finalists was/is the talented jazz pianist and Crenshaw-native Veritus Miller. And now we get to share Miller’s latest composition “The In Between.” It’s a languid, meditative piece equally alluring to the jazz novice and the jazz cat.” (KCRW, 2024)

KCRW: The Potluck, Presented by Veritus Miller and Micah Heard, July 2024

“As two versatile musicians themselves, Veritus and Micah found that they knew many people across many different places and wanted to create a crossroads so that everyone could be connected! We believe having a strong support system is crucial for creatives because we can’t do anything alone! So we created the potluck for folks to discover who and/or what they might be missing!” (KCRW, 2024)

KCRW’s 5 Songs to Hear this Week: Young Creators Project [April] 2024

“The past decade or so has cemented Los Angeles as a world capital of contemporary jazz — thriving and forever pushing boundaries. Artists like Jameal Dean, Sharada Shashidhar, Terrace Martin, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington are just a few of the relatively young musicians that keep LA forward-facing. Veritus Miller could be next to join their ranks.” (KCRW, 2024)

KCRW Today’s Top Tune, March 2024

“This week we celebrate the undiscovered musical talent (under 21) in the greater LA area culled from a couple of hundred submissions to KCRW’s Young Creators Project. We narrowed it down to five finalists, from whom we turn the spotlight on 19-year-old jazz pianist, percussionist, and composer Veritus Miller. Based in the Crenshaw District, Miller hails from a musical family and assembled an array of first-rate musicians to showcase some serious chops.” (KCRW, 2024)

Veritus Miller: Young Creators Project spotlight

“There’s a moment in the song,” Miller tells KCRW’s LeRoy Downs, “the interval section is just solo piano. What that’s supposed to represent is like ‘all that happiness and stuff that you were going through, it might be going away.’ You're uncertain, you obviously don't know what's gonna happen next. So it's a little bittersweet. It's like, ‘I'm still happy, but it might be over… oh no!’ But then it comes back around, and that's just how life goes.” (KCRW, 2024)
